Ashfield Bicycle User Group July, 2006 UPDATE
The Ashfield Works plan has come and gone. Thank you to all who submitted requests and supporting words. While there was no change in the $ outcome for this year the number and quality of submissions about bikes raised the awareness amoung councillors and staff of the issues. Council is going to do some costings to better make itself aware of the needs and costs.
In a dramatical about face the NSW Government has (almost certainly) decided that having taxpayer provided on road
cycleways in William Street, Sydney for taxpaying cyclist is an oxymoron. The NSW government seems to believe that if taxpayers want to use the roads that taxpayers have provided they should all drive cars.
There is an election coming up in March next year. If you see a politician wandering around pressing the flesh encourage them to consider the needs of taxpaying cyclists, the financial benefits of having health improvements such as provided by cycling, and the karma earned by being nice to the environment. If you don't see a politician wandering around send them a letter (works better than an e-mail)
