We all know cycling is good for you, but it's also good for the community. Information on some of the benefits of more people riding bicycles is included here, to support our recent submission to Marrickville Council's Management Plan.

• The Benefits of Cycling: The Australian Department of Transport and Regional Services has a new, excellent webpage on the Benefits of Cycling including benefits for health, environment, communities, employers and retailers.

• Local Economy: Cyclists spend more and so help the local economy. See the fact sheet and recent Le Monde article.

• Pollution: Did you know drivers breath more pollution than cyclists? See these studies from Sydney's RPA Hospital, Netherlands, Denmark and London. See more info in this article by MASSBUG member Bruce Ashley.

• Social Capital: The impact of traffic on social capital fact sheet.

• The European Commission published a great handbook for local authorities about the benefits of increasing cycling, Cycling: the Way Ahead for Towns and Cities (available in ten European languages).
