Dear GreenWay Supporter,
The Friends of the GreenWay community group has now been formed following a very successful launch on 6th October 2007. Since then an Interim Committee of nine people have investigated options for the group's structure and operation, and are now ready to put some recommendations to an open meeting of the group.
This meeting will be on Saturday 15th December, 11am at Hoskins Park, Dulwich Hill (beside Davis St). The meeting will be followed by a BYO picnic. The park has recently been refurbished with a new children's play area, so families will be most welcome!
It is proposed that the meeting will elect a committee and office bearers and consider a structure and adoption of rules for the group.
If you would like more information and/or are interested in nominating for the committee (nominations are due by Dec 8), please email sby@bigpond.net.au.
You will be able to join up and become an official member of the group at the meeting.
Please pass on this email to others as appropriate.
All welcome. See you there!
Regards
Sam Byrne on behalf of the Interim Committee
20 September 2007Dear Greenway supporter,
As floated at the Greenway Steering Committee meeting last year, there has been great interest in establishing an incorporated community group to help the greenway vision and advocate for the corridor. The time is now right to launch a greenway community group to help push things along and support the actions of the various groups working the corridor and the Councils, other agencies and NGOs all working towards a sustainable and environmental link between the Cooks River and Iron Cove.
So come and join the others at Cadigal Reserve Summer Hill on Saturday 6th October at 11am, where we will get things started and hopefully get a committee up and running ASAP...and of course celebrate the achievements over the previous 7 years! See the invite attached. Please pass on to others as appropriate.
See you there!
cheers
bruce

Dear GreenWay supporters,
The 3rd GreenWay "think tank" meeting is on again Saturday 7th July, 11am to 2pm!
This time there will be a brief meeting at Summer Hill, then we will walk to the corridor at Johnson Park Dulwich Hill (say 12.15pm), then down along the corridor to Cadigal Reserve Summer Hill (say 1.15pm). Along the way we will look at the areas where Long-nosed Bandicoots have been located. At the newly revamped Cadigal Reserve we will have a picnic lunch and possibly continue discussion. BYO sandwiches, but light refreshments (tea/coffee/biscuits) will be supplied. Will be back at Summer Hill by about 2pm.
Meet 11am adjacent Summer Hill Community Centre, 131 Smith St Summer Hill. The picnic will be depend on the weather (which has been quite erratic of late) - so we will come straight back to Summer Hill for lunch if the weather is inclement. But unless the weather turns really bad, the walk will go ahead, so bring your wet weather gear if rain is forecast. You can download the flyer for the meeting and see more details at http://www.greenway.org.au/StopPress.html#ThinkTank
All the best!
Cheers

GreenWay Think Tanks 2007
Beginning on Saturday 05 May there will be a Greenway Think Tank on the first Saturday of May, July, September... People are being encouraged to join the free cycle training course lead by Tanya Bosch, an accredited trainer with vast experience in ride training. Following the course participants will collect at one of the local cafes for a Think Tank to discuss what is current and proposed for the Greenway project.
"The ride is being led by Tanya Bosch and I am calling her today to iron out some of the details. I have been told that the course needs to be run in a safe environment, so the ride will probably go from Johnson Park to Iron Cove, so covers some and not all of the GreenWay. It starts at 10am on Saturaday the 5th of May and participants need to meet at "the Rocket" at Johnson Park, Dulwich Hill. It is a three hour course.
Regards, Hilary"

Hi all,
After two rounds of construction works involving the Sydney Water sewer pipeline (repainting then soil removal and replacement), closure of the pathway due to the furniture factory fire, and more recently pathway construction, the cycle and pedestrian link between Grosvenor Cres, Summer Hill, and Parramatta Road footpath via Cadigal Reserve is now open!
Also there is a new refuge at Longport St, Lewisham, 50m east of the roundabout at the intersection of Smith St and Carlton Cres. This allows riders and walkers to follow the GreenWay cycleway route to cross this busy road. Both of the pathway works support the Cooks River to Iron Cove GreenWay vision, and funded under the Sharing Sydney Harbour Access Improvement program and by Ashfield and Marrickville Councils. Hurray!
There will be an official opening some time in the New Year, so will keep you posted on this (Xmas) cheers! Bruce

Dear GreenWay participant,
The Cooks River to Iron Cove GreenWay Steering Committee is now on the ground and running! It was great to see a good cross section of the community, Council and agencies at the Inaugural GreenWay Steering Committee Meeting on 7th June 2006 at the Summer Hill Community Centre. A copy of the minutes is attached to either jog your memory as to what you said if you were there, or what was discussed if you missed out. They will also be posted on the GreenWay web site which is in the process of being updated.
There was broad agreement that the Committee should be based on a consensus approach, broadly inclusive of interested parties rather than having fixed representation and voting, and meeting quarterly. The scope of the Committee was seen as providing direction to the Coordination Strategy Project working group, and to act as a forum for Community input.
Next meeting is proposed for Wednesday 13th September 2006, same time but at a local venue to be decided. Details will be confirmed via email closer to the time. Please email to admin@greenway.org.au of you have any agenda items.
Anyway, please keep involved and in touch, and see you at the next meeting!
Regards Bruce Ashley

Hawthorn Canal - Cadigal Reserve Temporary Closure - Monday 26 June 2006 for about 6 weeks.
Email received by Massbug from Ashbug:
Hi, we have received the following message from Ashfield Council. While this work will not make the pathway continuous from Iron Cove to Summer Hill it will make more safe the connector from Grosvenor Cr down to the pathway at Summer Hill. A lot of credit for this should go to Bruce Ashley and the Marrickville and South Sydney Bicycle User Group who put a Lot of effort into ensuring the Hawthorn Canal Cycleway/Greenway continues to evolve and to Ashfield, Marrickville and Leichhardt Councils for their implementation work. Thanks.
Alternative access will be available via Dover Street (just a few more grunts up the hill) Ashbug
Email received by Ashbug from Ashfield Council:
"As you are aware Council received funding to create an extension to the cycle/pedestrian path within Cadigal Reserve. I received advice from our engineering section last week that this work is scheduled to begin on Monday 26 June 2006. As such the Reserve will be closed to the public for approximately 6 weeks from this date.
The cycle path will be closed from Haig Avenue to the North and Grosvenor Cres at Cadigal Reserve to the south, this is to enable the works to take place safely.
I would be grateful if you could forward this email onto Ashbug Members so that everyone can be kept up to date with the works and the closure of the site. I will let you know when the project is expected to be completed and provide updates as the works progress.
For your information a notice of the closure will be in the Council Column in the Courier newspaper tomorrow and will also appear on our website.
Regards Janene Harris Ashfield Council"
GREENWAY STEERING COMMITTEE FORMED
7th June 2006
Formation of committee, including representatives of government and volunteer organisations, to formulate policy and provide feedback on the promotion of an Active Transport Corridor. To meet quarterly or as necessary.
CALL FOR FORMATION OF GREENWAY STEERING COMMITTEE
19 May 2006
Dear Fiona,
MASSBUG's previous interest in the Cooks River to Iron Cove GreenWay and umbrella projects has been invaluable and is appreciated.
Since the previous gathering together at the Bus Tour and Workshop in November 2004, there has been continuous activity, culminating in the recent awarding of a NSW State Government Metropolitan Greenspace grant for a Co-ordination Strategy for the corridor. It is very pleasing to see that the $30,000 grant funding is to be matched by $10,000 each contributed by Ashfield, Leichhardt and Marrickville Councils. This, combined with increased bushcare activity, preparation of bike plans for the three adjoining Councils, work on three road crossings resulting from a Sharing Sydney Harbour Grant mean it is timely for interested parties to commence regular Steering Committee activity. So as to guide the Co-ordination Strategy process and ensure that there is full community and agency participation and representation, a representative from MASSBUG is cordially invited to attend this inaugural Steering Committee Meeting on:
Wednesday 7th June 2006, 4.30 to 6pm at Summer Hill Community Centre, Smith St Summer Hill.
Agenda items include:
- background and project update
- scope and direction for the Steering Committee and how each group can be represented
- GreenWay vision and ideas and interests of the participants
- meeting arrangements and means of communication and contact
An invitation to the meeting including location and transport details is attached. If your RSVP could be received at admin@greenway.org.au by Friday 2nd June 2006 this would be appreciated. Please call me on 9560 9281 if you have any further queries about the Steering Committee meeting or the project in general.
Regards Bruce Ashley
PS - have CC'd to Gilbert as he has expressed interest in being involved
