REMOVAL OF CYCLE LANE ON M2

16 JANUARY 2007

"Did you read the reports in the media over the weekend regarding the planned changes to the M2 Motorway in preparation for the opening of the Lane Cove Tunnel?

Briefly, the changes involve removing the cycleway on the M2 between Lane Cove Road and Beecroft Road. At this stage, the proposed alternative route is much slower, much hillier and involves multiple road crossings, making it potentially much less safe than the existing cycleway.

Could we be seeing a repeat of the backward steps taken on William Street, Cross City Tunnel, etc, where the government scrapped existing bicycle facilities without offering sensible alternatives that are either adequate or safe?

The local BUG, Bike North has done a fantastic job at short notice in responding to this latest announcement. Click on the link below to read more information and have your say: http://advocacy.bikenorth.org.au/m2/

If you wish to make comments directly to Bicycle NSW, contact Kate Marley (Head of Advocacy) through the ContactUs form on the web site and selecting Advocacy as the Subject. http://www.bicyclensw.org.au/Contact.html ..."
