1 September 2004: in acknowledgement of South Sydney's merger into the City of Sydney Council and of Bike Sydney's reinvigoration, massbug hands over responsibility for the previous South Sydney territory to Bike Sydney. We will keep the name MASSBUG and keep supporting Bike Sydney's work especially in areas where we have history and knowledge. We encourage everyone from the City of Sydney Council area to get involved in BikeSydney and contribute to a new era for Sydney. MASSBUG will be able to concentrate on the development of the new Marrickville Bike Plan and on our priority project - the Iron Cove to Cooks River GreenWay.
30 August 2004: Marrickville Council is developing a new bike plan. This is a great opportunity for input from every corner of the LGA so that we can collectively (community, massbug, council) come up with a high standard, second generation plan. The fantastic South Sydney Bike Plan (see below) is our inspiration. If you would like to be kept in the loop and/or have suggestions for what needs to be done in your street or neighbourhood, please email us on mailto:massbug**(at)**massbug.org.au (Replace**(at)** with @)
21 August 2004: Bike Sydney is reborn! At a meeting today there was discussion about the various projects, council areas (villages) and policies that needed attention. Jobs were assigned and a regular meeting established: the second Saturday of each month. Meeting format is optional coffee at 9:30am at Hyde Park Cafe, then a short ride and the meeting proper at Bicycle NSW office from 11am to 1pm. See BikeSydney for more info.
4 June 2004: A Cyclist Rally has been organised for Monday 7th at 5:30pm at Town Hall, to support the proposal to review the Gateway Projects to include separate and safe cycle tracks like in Copenhagen. Come and support a new vision for cycling in Sydney.
3 June 2004: You can now find the most excellent South Sydney Bike Plan on the City of Sydney Council website. See the network map, the philosophy behind the best plan NSW has yet seen, or look up the route near you! See how Wilson St will look with a contra-flow lane! You can order the map over the phone by ringing 1800 06 06 07 and asking for the pub. numbers above.
9 April 04: The RTA's Alexandra Canal Cycleway between Airport Drive and Coward Street is almost completely covered by waist high grass and noxious weeds in some parts now, as Botany Council and the RTA each claim the other has responsibility for maintenance. Unless they can sort it out very soon, MASSBUG will co-ordinate a working bee to clean it up and bill them both. The path was originally 3m wide, now down to 30cm wide in the first photo.
UPDATE: The RTA did finally fix up the path on 2nd June and did an excellent job.

Look at the track record of the existing councillors. Make sure you vote for candidates that support improving cycling conditions in your area.
