Is it a ride? Is it a tour? Is it a castle in the sky? Sydney is possessed of some wonderful off-road paths most of which link, or could be linked with some assistance, to provide wonderful, engaging, enchanting cycling and active transport corridors...
"...We gratefully take donated bikes and parts that are not going to be used. Tools, oil, WD40 and small donations also accepted, but most of all, we'd like your company while fixing bikes and help keeping the workshop going. We do not sell second hand bikes at the moment but we can help you find people that do, so feel free to ask. The main reasons we don't are that we would rather have your help than your money..." from the (Newtown) Bike Club blog
"By being involved in a goodwill gesture, based on compassion people feel a greater sense of self worth. By recycling Australian unwanted bicycles to those less fortunate in other countries is a worthwhile cause. In assisting the less fortunate acts of charity are always smiled upon and this is an easy exercise to make a difference in a person's life..."
Council plans for the bike route through this busy intersection were review at the Wed 06 Feb 2008 Massbug meeting which was a scheduled joint Bike Working group meeting. This has been followed up with a submission and discussion at the following council transport committee meeting on Thu 21 Feb 2008.
Coward St, Mascot, a regional route that has been damaged due to necessary works but still after two years awaiting restoration to the contracted specs...
Sadly lacking in skate and cycling facilities the South Sydney area needs something like an international quality MTB BMX course and skate bowl. A little used corner of Sydney Park is ideal...
If a ride was so good you want to re-do it with friends, or if a ride was so bad you want to make copious notes and send us buckets of revisions - ride maps and information will be posted from time to time...
We're very excited about the development of a new, second generation bike plan for Marrickville. Have your say on what you'd like to see included by emailing us at mailto:massbug**(at)**massbug.org.au (Replace**(at)** with @)
Conducted on a routine basis Massbug members 'audit' the local streets and paths for paths and roadways to be repaired, for missing kerb ramps, damaged or missing signage, etc.
Do you want to ride to work in the city but not sure about tackling the traffic on your own? Find out about joining the scheduled BIKE BUS operating from Marrickville/Newtown to the City daily...
This is not a MASSBUG project, but some people have been asking about the map which shows what houses will be demolished if the F6 that Michael Costa wants proceeds, and then the extra traffic has to be dealt with. This is the council zoning map, but beware - large download size (200Kb) to access this site...

Samsoe - 140% carbon negative
Put Samsoe, Denmark on the top of your list of places to see before you die
"OPEC imposed an oil embargo against the U.S. and the Netherlands for supporting Israel's war against Syria and Egypt, and nearly quadrupled the price of petroleum for everyone else. The U.S. at the time imported about 35 percent of its oil; Denmark imported more than 90 percent. Keenly aware of their vulnerability, the Danes spent the next 30 years figuring out how to secure an energy-independent future, all without nuclear power, which parliament outlawed in 1982.
Now, remarkably, Denmark is about 150 percent self-sufficient. A net exporter of energy—most of it oil and natural gas from the North Sea—it also sells wind power to it neighbors..."
"...The bottom line: Samsų is 140 percent carbon negative, while virtually the rest of the universe except for off-the-grid pockets in a few communities and the solar-powered International Space Station is carbon positive to the tune of adding 27 billion metric tons of CO2 to the atmosphere each year..."
