"With Main Roads commitment to improving safety and achieving a high standard of cycling facilities, new on road "hook turn storage boxes" were recently installed at the Mulgrave Road - Severin Street intersection in Cairns. These were the first in the state to be installed on our road network and Main Roads will continue to promote their installation on future intersection upgrades where possible..."

"Queensland Transport's cycling public education campaigns aim to improve road safety for cyclists. The "Keep your head in a helmet" campaign sought to educate children about the benefits of wearing a helmet while cycling. The "Share the road" campaign aimed to teach motorists and cyclists how to share the road safely. This campaign stemmed from the government's commitment to increase cycling rates in Queensland.

"...In August 2000, around 85 per cent of people who saw the television commercial agreed that it made them feel they should leave more room for cyclists on the road when they are driving. Four in five people agreed the ad made them feel they should check for cyclists when driving. Similarly, four in five people endorsed the position that the ad made them feel they should give way to cyclists when driving. Around 65 per cent of respondents agreed with the statement ‘since the ad I have made more of an effort to check for cyclists when I am driving’.
Interstate jurisdictions (Tasmania, WA, NSW, ACT) have all expressed appreciation of the television commercial and an interest in using the commercial in their states..."
