REDFERN TOUR OF BEAUTY

19 Novemeber 2006

SquatSpace invites you to our popular Redfern Waterloo Tour of Beauty.

WHEN: The next tour will take place on Saturday 25th November 2006, from 2-6pm.

This particular tour has been organised in response to “Engage” - a symposium organised by the Creativity and Cognition Studios; and OzCHI, the Australian Computer Human Interface Conference, both based at the University of Technology, Sydney.

For more info on these conferences, see: http://www.creativityandcognition.com/engage06/; http://www.ozchi.org/

In requesting the tour, the conference organisers Lizzy Muller and Astrid Larssen (who came along to the last Tour of Beauty) explained to us that overseas delegates are often taken on “river cruises” to see the glitzy side of Sydney. However, they believe that the folks coming along to their conference would much rather be exposed to the complexities of the “real Sydney”.

Naturally, we welcome locals on the tour too!

BUT! As always, places on the bus are extremely limited, and you should book fast by emailing info@squatspace.com

HOWEVER! As usual, cyclists are warmly welcomed, and need not book!

BIKES?: BYO! But if you don't have one, we have secured the use of a limited number of bikes for those of you who'd prefer to pedal. If you'd like to borrow one, get in touch by emailing info@squatspace.com

WHERE?: If you are a conference delegate coming on the bus, meet outside Building 10, Jones Street, UTS, at 1:30pm. See a map here: http://www.uts.edu.au/about/mapsdirections/bway.html -The bus will pick you up and trundle over to Redfern, where we will rendezvous with the rest of our tourists, at 2pm sharp, at the “TNT Twin Towers” on Lawson Street.

HOW MUCH?: We don’t like to charge for the tour we would request a donation of $5 or $10 depending on your means (to help cover the cost of the bus, fuel and driver). If you can’t afford it, come along anyway for free, as our guest!

AND AFTER: there are plans afoot to have a barbecue and film screening at the Settlement, one of Australia's oldest community centres in Darlington. We'll update you on this one soon...

MORE INFO: we'll update the specifics at http://squatspace.com/blog so head over there. Recently there has been some great writing, and a video and a radio documentary about the tour, so plenty on the blog to whet your appetite.

06 September 2006

we're doing 2 more Redfern Waterloo Tours of Beauty

9th and 23rd of September. For all the details see http://www.vergeartsfestival.com/events/TourOfBeauty.html

It's part of a festival at sydney uni, aimed at getting sydney uni students more involved in the neighbourhood they walk through every day on the way to the train station in redfern...

Also it'll be a good chance to catch up on what's going on with the Redfern Waterloo Authority's built environment plan, and developments with the Aboriginal Tent Embassy down at the Block.

For more info about the tours, and what's involved, see http://squatspace.com/redfern

Note that the festival is putting on a bus for these two tours.

Contact c.brain@usu.usyd.edu.au if you'd like to book a place on the bus. We'll be happy for tag-along cyclists too, of course.

Make sure you get in touch with us with any enquiries etc. info@squatspace.com
