In addition The Greens would advocate council pursue an education campaign targeting residents and road users to ensure they are aware of Cyclists rights to use the road and safety tips to reduce accidents involving cyclists. 4 The Greens do not have adequate information about the engineering budget to give a considered answer to this question. However we will commit to setting a target of 4% of overall trips in the city to be on bicycles by the end of the council term in 2008. Following on, we will support the required expansion of the engineering budget to achieve the this goal 5 Many factors, however some significant ones include:. a.. Improved facilities for cyclists b.. increased public transport fares and reduced services c.. Growth in resident population has exceeded growth in parking spaces, making it harder for residents to own a car. In particualar council’s progressive resident parking program in Alexandria and the poor public transport in that area has encouraged residents to seek new transport options. 6 Advocate the production and distribution of a 'Sustainability Guide' or similar with a section on sustainable transport in particular cycling. 7 Yes and more. We would seek to accelerate the implementation of these plans 8 YES ADDITIONALLY: The City of Sydney has a specific responsibility to help improve facilities for commuters cycling to work. Greens on Council will work to implement or strengthen any existing requirements for workplaces to provide shower facilities and cycle parking.
